10 Places to Cool Down in the Costa Blanca

Updated: Mar 10

Even though we’ve reached the end of the summer now, the weather is still amazing here in the Costa Blanca. Are you looking for places to beat the heat? We’ve got you covered in this blog where we’re sharing our favourite places to go to cool down!

VIVA LA COSTA BLANCA in Rio Bolbaite

1. Rio Bolbaite

A family-friendly gem, Rio Bolbaite, has stunning river spots perfect for picnics and a refreshing swim. Park your car in town and have a little walk to the river. Remember to bring €3,- in cash per person for the summer entry fee, and don't forget to bring your water shoes to go into the water. Dogs are also allowed in the first part of the river, on the leash so they can cool down too.

While you're in the Bolbaite area, please don't miss out on the hidden waterfall Salto de Chella. It’s only a 5 minute ride with the car from Rio Bolbaite, but definitely worth the visit. From the village of Chella, start walking at Parque de la Fuente (right next to the ‘Bajada de la Fuente’ street). This is the only place where the direction to El Salto de Chella is signposted. Follow the thin road leaving the sports centre on your left. Keep walking for about 100 m until you reach the bridge (which is just over El Salto de Chella).

Next to it, you will see the ruins of an old house. Go down the path to the left of the road next to the old house. After walking around 150 meters, the path becomes more straight. At this point you will see paths going to the right. Don’t go to the right, as that’s where almost everyone gets lost. Go straight and keep going straight until you reach the river 'El Paraiso'. This is a small wetland and from here you can see the waterfall at its base.

Once you have descended to the bottom of the cliff, take the sharp curve to the right towards the river. You will need to walk over some very large stones to cross the river. Once you have crossed the river, follow the path to the right which will take you to the base of the waterfall. This base is a little 'beach' of 1.5 meters long where you can view the amazing Salto de Chella.

2. Font Salada

Located in La Marjal Oliva-Pego natural park, Font Salada's thermal spring is a year-round oasis with healing, salty waters. During the whole year, the waters range between 21°C and 23°C. Nice place to visit also with kids! You can have a little swim here, but remember to pack your water shoes as you can only go into the water over the rocks. Enjoy a drink and some bites at the cute chiringuito next to the water. Please note the chiringuito is there only during high season. If you’re going to the Font Salada off-season, bring a delicious picnic basket. Since it’s in the middle of the natural park, there can be quite a lot of mosquitos, so make sure to bring some mosquito spray and clothes you could wear over your swimwear.

3. Fonts D'Algar

If you want to escape the heat for a bit, make sure to visit Fonts D'Algar for a refreshing dip. This natural wonderland with beautiful waterfalls and crystal-clear natural pools is just 15 kilometres from Benidorm. It's definitely worth the €5,- entry fee they charge you in high season, which can be paid both in cash and by card. Here you can walk 1,5 kilometres along the banks of the Algar river. Just like visiting any other waterfall, it’s a must to bring your water shoes for a comfortable adventure.

4. Cala Moraig

This idyllic place in Benitachell is only accessible by foot. There is a parking area next to the beginning of the road leading down to the cove where you can park your car before having a little walk to the amazing Cala Moraig. This 300-meter gravel beach with clear waters is very picturesque with its cliffs and vegetation. For divers and snorkelers, bring your gear to explore the underwater wonders. Also for our nature lovers, there is a nudist area on the far left of the cove.

5. Cala Portixol

Cala Portixol is a rustic beach with a serene escape with pebbles and rocks, offering a breathtaking sunset view of the island just offshore. Besides having a swim here to cool down, during high season it’s also the perfect time to visit Cala Clemence. This beach club organises tardeos (afternoon parties) featuring live DJ music from 16:00 - 20:00 so you can have a dance while enjoying the views.

6. Playa de Tabarca

Tabarca Island, the Valencian Community's largest island, is famous for its marine reserve. The 25-minute boat ride from Santa Pola offers stunning vistas and only costs €10,- for adults for a return. Once on the island, you can enjoy the sandy beaches, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and snorkel in the marine reserve. Make sure to try their delicious seafood cuisine, especially the famous Caldero stew.

7. Aqualandia

If you're a fan of swimming pools and water slides, Aqualandia in Benidorm is a family-friendly paradise. Please note this water paradise is only opened during the high season. It's one of Europe's largest water parks, offering a range of thrilling slides for all ages. The perfect place to cool down with your kids or friends!

8. Playa de Oliva

The coastal town Oliva has a 10-kilometer-long beach. Playa de Oliva is known for its soft white sand and is exceptionally clean. It's the perfect spot for a day of sun and surf. During the high season there’s a beautiful chiringuito called Oli Ba Ba where you can enjoy rice dishes, tapas and delicious cocktails.

9. Playa el Paraíso

Playa el Paraíso, also known as Playa Paradís, stands as an iconic gem along the Alicante coast, captivating the hearts of both the locals and the tourists. The name is a true reflection of the reality you'll encounter when visiting. Nestled in the picturesque stretch of the Costa Blanca, this beach has crystal-clear waters and definitely some Instagram-worthy shots. This beach is like a laid-back year-round paradise without the usual crowds, as it's located in a semi-urbanized area. A natural oasis accessible yet blissfully removed from the city center.

When you're visiting this paradise, make sure to have a quick 20-minute drive to the water reservoir's mirador of Villajoyosa! This stunning reservoir is a real catch for the eye, with turquoise colored water that's even hard to catch on photos.. Go see it for yourself!

10. Playa de la Granadella

Situated between Javéa and Moraira, Playa de la Granadella is a paradise on earth. Crystal-clear waters and breathtaking mountain views make this beach a must-visit spot to cool down and relax.
